PIRATE PARENT LETTER MAILED ON JULY 1, 2024

Pirate Athletes and Parents:

I hope you’re having a great summer. Many of you have committed to our summer EDGE program and have been doing a great job of preparing yourself for the upcoming school year. We need all of you to get involved (Mon-Thur from 8:00 - 10:00 am) – it’s not too late to get started. We will take the week of July 4th off from our “organized” EDGE workouts. However, the weight room and field are still available to you each day during that week from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm.

INCOMING FRESHMEN FOOTBALL PLAYERS

You are a very special, athletic group. The Pirate coaching staff is excited about getting to work with you. I strongly encourage you to come to the Freshmen Football Camp on July 30th – August 1st, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. The cost for the camp is $40. If this is a problem, come visit with me. I don’t want anyone to miss this camp. This camp will give you a jump on two-a-days, allow you to meet your coaches, and help you adapt to the pace of high school football. For early registration, please go to the link listed below.

PIRATE FOOTBALL PARENTS

Parents, it is an honor to have this opportunity to coach your young man. I thank you for entrusting him to us. He will be taught character, integrity, discipline, work ethic, respect, and be held accountable for his grades and conduct. Football is a great sport, but our main goal is to assist you in helping your young man grow into a great citizen and human being. We will always hold him accountable for doing right. You may not agree with every decision we make as coaches, but we will be fair to every athlete and always do what is in the best interest of the team. If you have a concern, please don’t hesitate to call to set up a meeting to discuss those concerns. Please keep in mind, we will never discuss playing time. Playing time is determined by your son’s daily performance in practice and his ability to make plays.

We will provide cleats for all varsity football players, if they choose to use our cleats. If you would prefer to purchase cleats for your athlete, please make sure they fall under the following criteria:

  • Color: Primary color to be black or white (any accent color has to be black, gold, gray, or white)

We encourage each athlete to bring their own workout shirt and shorts from home. We have found that items are less likely to “disappear” whenever we enable them to do this. The workout gear has to be school appropriate; meaning, no obscene language, advertising, art, etc. Please make sure your workout gear falls under the following criteria:

  • Color: black, gold, gray, or white

This is a time for the men in our community to come fellowship with coaches and athletes and enjoy a great breakfast together. All men in our community are welcomed and encouraged to attend and help mentor these young men. All we ask is for a donation of whatever you are able to give in order to help provide the food each week.

**Each Monday following a Friday night football game we will have Quarterback Club Meetings. This will begin at 7:00 pm in the Fieldhouse Film Room. This event is only open to varsity football parents/guardians. All varsity football parents/guardians are encouraged to attend as we are excited to provide this opportunity to allow our athlete’s home and athletic life to be connected. Each meeting will involve a replay of the previous Friday night’s game as well as coaches talking through the film describing what their expectation was for the plays involved. We will celebrate the plays executed as taught, and make note of those who missed executing the play and what the expectation is next time. This time together will not involve questions or concerns from parents - it will only be a film session in order for all parties to help our athletes reach their full potential. Any questions or concerns can be directed to my office to schedule a conference.

**IMPORTANT** All paperwork and physical forms must be completed and turned in before you can participate. If anything is incomplete, you will not be allowed to participate and it will be considered an unexcused missed practice – you’ve had time to get it done. All incoming freshmen must have a physical before playing high school sports.

**Eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day. Drink at least a gallon of water a day. Lay off the Cokes/junk food. Do your best to eat right. Bananas are the #1 recommended fruit for athletes. Be in bed by 10 pm - each hour before 12 counts as 2.

In this packet you will find important dates/times for our summer strength and conditioning program (EDGE), as well as Soccer, Basketball, and Football Camp information. Also listed are the High School Football, Soccer, Wrestling, Golf, Basketball, and Track SportsYou Codes. We highly encourage incoming freshmen to join the SportsYou groups that pertain to sports that you would be interested in being a part of whenever you get to High School. Lastly, please bookmark the Pittsburg Athletics website (pirates.pittsburgisd.net) into your phone, computer, or any other electronic device! This website will always house the information within this packet as well as much more! If there are any changes to dates/times for any event, you can go to this website and see real-time updates/changes.

In regards to the EDGE Program, please know that we expect all Athletes to be in attendance as often as possible. "I DIDN'T HAVE A RIDE" is never a sufficient reason for not showing up. We will always make sure that a coach will come by to pick up your child and bring them home if they do not have any other form of transportation.
